Hi, I’m Josh. I help people heal from religious trauma and learn to trust their own voice again.
For over 35 years, I was immersed in evangelical Christianity—as a pastor’s kid, a missionary kid, and eventually a full-time ministry leader. I spent nearly 25 years preaching sermons, leading college ministries, teaching and mentoring others in their faith. From the outside, I looked like I was thriving in my calling.
But on the inside, I was unraveling.
I was taught not to trust my desires, not to question authority, and to see myself as fundamentally broken. I lived in fear of getting it wrong—of disappointing God, others, and the rigid expectations placed on me. Over time, I lost connection with my own voice. I didn’t know who I was outside of the roles I played.
Leaving my faith wasn’t a single decision—it was a painful, layered process of questioning everything I had once built my life around. But it was also the beginning of something new: a return to myself.
Today, I’m a licensed mental health therapist (MD & PA) who specializes in religious trauma, self-trust, and narrative therapy. I’m also a dad, a huge Marvel fan, U2 fan, a deep feeler, and someone who knows what it’s like to rebuild a life from the ground up.
I created The Unlearning Journey to help others walk this path—not just to unlearn what harmed them, but to learn how to reconnect with the deep wisdom, goodness, and clarity that’s been inside them all along.
This work isn’t just professional for me—it’s personal.
I’ve sat where you’re sitting. I’ve asked the same questions. And I’ve found, again and again, that healing is possible.
If you’re ready to step away from fear, shame, and self-erasure…
If you want to reconnect with your voice, your values, and your own inner knowing…
You don’t have to do it alone.
